How to draw 3D - 3 simple Techniques, you can use

If you like drawing, you may be exploring many techniques and mediums that allow you to showcase your talent. Drawingof the cartoons of ing is such a pleasure to use your love to drawfrom the sessions and can also be a profitable enterprise. You can also draw of paintings, cartoons or those still in three dimensions.

If you want to learn how to draw in 3D, you will need to learn a few techniques on how to to this effect. Of course, some people are so talented that they may be able to draw things in 3D without even learning a few techniques, but of course, if you want to learn the skill you want to learn quickly, following three techniques that you might find useful.

1 Learn to draw in perspective. Drawing things in perspective is one of the foundations to be able to control and learn how to draw in 3D. If you are ing drawin perspective, more objects you seem larger, while those seem below you shorter or smaller. Practice your eyes to look at the prospect of objects is also help you to draw in perspective and to give them a 3D effect.

To draw in perspective, you can use parallel lines to create a 3D effect to an object, whereas, when you draw a square for example, you will do a flat square but a cube, which shows different sides.

2. The shading and lighting. Another technique that you can use to create a three dimensional effect on your sessions drawis make the use of shading. In some cases you can also reduce a part of the object to create a 3D effect. Drawing dark parallel lines to make shadows simply shading. Cross hatching is also another technique in creating shades which also found its 3D effect. Instead of only lines parallel drawn for create shading, this technique uses lines of passage. Wearing of the veil is another technique used to create shadows to make the 3D effect.

3 Ing drawwhat you see

If you are somewhat familiar with the above two techniques, you can also learn how to draw in 3D by simply attracting things around you. You can draw stacked boxes, stairs, draw a bottle and many other things see you around. Of course, you must draw their than the way you see them. Although it would be easy to constant practice, will first help you hone your skills by learning how to draw of the things that see you of course, using your skills in shade or perspective thus sketches.

It's a few techniques to help you learn how to draw in 3D. However, you still remember the constant practice will be to develop your skills better and will allow you to control the way we look at an object and it outlines just like how it appeared in the reality.

Learn how Draw is like learning to ride a bike

You are horrible bike. But everyone is out on their bikes and you are inside alone. It's a beautiful sunny day, and it does not take long before you decide to go out and do a test. You there, half riding, half pushing yourself along when all of a sudden your training wheels stuck in a rut. As you take yourself off, it I come, sailing as well as on my brilliant bike nice without training wheels. I roar past shout you, "LOOK, no hands!"

Well, you're not too happy. It should be easy to ride a bike, but you can not do again. You get out you of the rut and walk your bike back home. You never touch the thing again.

Drawing is similar to bike. Everyone can draw, but some people do not have the coordination to actually draw the way they want to. Some people try to use the "training wheels" and still seem to draw any they efforts.

Design should be easy. We see people, animals, and other objects all around us every day, then why can't we just draw. Or, if we can, why not be able to as good a job as someone else who has been drawing for years. They can even draw using "no hands"! Perhaps though not enough.

Design is not easy, because a bicycle is not easy. You know that to mount a bike, you need a certain amount of coordination and balance. And the only way of really and you will be better, by the practice.

It is to learn to draw. There are the wheels of the training, techniques and tips that can really make improve you at a much faster pace. But in practice is the only way and you will be better.

If I told you to draw a maple leaf, you would know how may points on it? It would probably have most of the people to say no. Although you probably know that it seems that in your mind, they may not say exactly how many points is. Why is this?

Our brain look at images all the time. However, if your brain is like mine, it does remember not all the details. This is why when developing a photo I must watch about 100 times.

Learn how to draw requires that you have a good memory. Over time, you learn about what something looks exactly like your head. You remember more details.

Back to the sample spreadsheet. If you had to draw a 100 times maple leaf in detail, I am sure, that you would know How to draw very well from your head at the time where you have reached 100. You know how many points are and how the veins branch. You know the ways of light strikes the roadmap and How to draw the shadows.

Once you have attracted something several times you will be able to more quickly and more precisely whenever. For example, I enjoy drawing faces. I shot eyes many times that I could draw one eye very precisely from memory. More I draw, it becomes easier and more I train my brain what to look at, more a drawing comes alive.

So, in conclusion, drawing is like a bicycle. With practice, it becomes much easier and even without noticing, you pay more attention to the details. In this way, if you never take something from memory, you would have a good idea of how it looks like already in your head.

Learn your way. Once you can draw faces, you can draw almost anything. Train your brain to look at how the light hits an object. Consider how the different points of view to modify how an object looks like. Look for ways in which you can improve your work.

After all, you wouldn't start learning how to bicycle without your hands, you?

How to draw - an Introduction to drawing everything

Every day, thousands of people search for information on how to draw roses, people, horses, dragons, airplanes, and other objects. Over the next weeks I will be writing a series of articles that will help you learn how to draw anything and everything. My goal is to get you to a point where you no longer need drawing books or websites telling you how to draw, but are comfortable with a technique, or number of techniques that help you draw what you see. It may take you months or even years to get to this point, but if you are determined you will get there. All the information provided in the articles are meant to steer you in the right direction and get you there faster. You will have to set the pace. Remember to not set the bar too high, or to set it too low. Make sure you are challenging yourself, but at the same time do not choose to do something that is too challenging. You will be setting yourself up for failure.

Over the past number of years, but especially this year, with the creation of my first how to draw website, I have searched the internet to see how others tackle the subject of drawing. I found that most of them use the step by step technique that breaks down a drawing into manageable chunks. It seems that most well known artists use some sort of step by step technique that works for them.

The reason why most websites use this technique is because our brains seem to be able to only absorb so much at a time. At least my brain works that way. If I was to look at a photo of a person for a minute, and then told to draw it without ever looking at the photo again, I could not do it. However, if I was given a photo of a ball and told to do the same thing, I could draw it. My point is that our brains can only take in so much at a time and the step by step technique helps you focus on a certain part of the object one step at a time.

There are other techniques as well. What they all have in common is that they each train your brain to draw what you see. One of the techniques, which I will describe in greater detail in a future article, is the upside down technique. Just like the name suggests, you draw the object upside down. This helps your eyes focus on the actual shapes, rather than the image as a whole.

Graphs also break down an object into manageable sections. Especially for artists who can not get the proportions right, graphs are the way to go. By making a graph on you photo and drawing paper, you force your brain to focus on one area at a time. You draw what you see in the boxes, rather than trying to draw the whole object at once. Again, by doing this you are breaking down the image into manageable chunks.

I think I may be starting loosing some of you already. So, let me put you to work. Here my first assignment.

Assignment 1 - Finding a Drawing Book

Below is a list of drawing books. They are all drawing books by well known authors. I want you to choose a title and search it on the internet (amazon.com). Find a drawing book that looks appealing. Purchase it if you want to. But, before you do, make sure it is the best one. Don't pick one and then decide later that you actually wanted another one. There are many how to draw books, and not all of them are very helpful.

LEE HAMMOND (her books got me interested in drawing people)
Lee Hammond's Big Book of Drawing
Lifelike Drawing with Lee Hammond

BETTY EDWARDS (very well know author)
Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain

J. D. HILLBERRY (he has a great website)
Drawing Realistic Textures in Pencil

BERT DODSON
Keys to drawing

ROBERT HALE
Drawing Lessons from the Great Masters

BURNE HOGARTH (his books do NOT contain many drawings that you can use, but he has a lot of information that may be helpful to you)
Drawing Dynamic Hands
Dynamic Figure Drawing
Drawing the Human Head

PRESTON BLAIR
Cartoon Animation

There are more, but as you do your search, you will come across them.

How to draw books are great for two reasons. They provide you with pictures of drawings, and with information and techniques you can use. Sometimes, it is hard to find something that is good to draw. Actually for me, often it is hard to find an image that is perfect for drawing. Most of the photos I have are not all that great for drawing.

Assignment 2 - Drawing Supplies

DRAWING PENCILS
As you wait for that drawing book to come, or when you go out to purchase one from an art store, make sure you also have the right drawing supplies

Here is what you should look for:

A set of drawing pencils. Drawing pencils range from around 2H - 9B. You should not really need any pencils harder than the 2H.

For those who do not know what the H and B stand for, let me explain. The graphite in each pencil has a certain hardness. The common HB pencil is right in the middle of the spectrum. B stands for blackness and H stands for hardness. The graphite ranging from B to 9B leave the darkest marks. The higher the number of B or blackness, the softer the graphite will be. That is why this range in used a lot in drawings. Dark marks are often more effective than light ones.

The other range, which is often good for shading and light areas is the F - 2H range. Yes this range goes all the way to 9H. But the 9H is so light, I don't think you will want to use it and most drawing pencil packages do not go that high in hardness.

As you have most likely guessed by now, the higher the number of hardness, the harder the graphite and the lighter the mark will be.

Just for your information, there is another pencil that I mentioned that fits in the middle of the spectrum beside the HB pencil. It is the F which stands for fine point. There, I think I got them all.

DRAWING ERASERS
I highly recommend that you get a kneaded eraser. This eraser you can mold by warming it in your hands. What is really nice about this eraser is that it it pulls the graphite off the page. Many other erasers tend to roll some of it deeper into the page. If you do not already have one. Pick one up. They are inexpensive.

DRAWING PAPER.

There are so many different kinds of drawing paper that it is hard to recommend one or two, but here are some labels to look for:

Acid Free - Most are acid free after they are manufactured, however will become acidic again over time.

Buffered - It is a bonus if it has been buffered, which means that it has undergone some chemical treatments so that it will stay acid free).

Lignin free - If it is lignin free, that means that it has been made from something free of lignin, such as cotton, or has undergone some treatment to make it safe.

You may want to try using vellum paper. It has a nice grain. It is toothy, which means it has texture. This makes it easier for shading because the graphite has something to grab on to.

SHADING TOOLS

For shading and smudging I recommend that you use a drawing tortillon. I suggest using them because the oil on your hands can, in the long run, damage your drawing. What also works, and some artist use them all the time, is cotton swabs, or Q-tips. Occasionally I use Q-tips, but I still prefer the tortillon. Try both and see what works well for you.

FINISHING

If you are using a sketch book and would like to keep your work in good condition it is a good idea to purchase a clear spray to protect your work. It prevents the drawings from smudging.

Note: If you can, spray your drawing outside because it has very strong smell!

Purchased a drawing book? Do you have the right drawing supplies? Great! Then you are ready for my next article.

My next article called Drawing with a Purpose.

In this how to draw article I explain the importance of sharing your work with others. In the end of the article I will recommend some sites you may wish to join.

...because it is great to be drawing

How to draw Manga, conscious of Style - part 1: outline

Translate Request has too much data
Parameter name: request
Translate Request has too much data
Parameter name: request

Well this is the first part of my drawing series. This tutorial assumes that you already have some knowledge on drawing anime or manga. The beginners can still learn from this, but the drawing parts wont be in depth, just some tips and techniques on drawing to optimize the picture, that I use during the sketching process.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Since this is a drawing tutorial, images are vital for the teaching of some techniques. That is why I have so many. However, EzineArticles.com doesn't allow the use of image tags in articles, so I have to make do with the limited links I can use. If you want to see the whole article which all the images, you can go to my website or the article,

How to Draw Manga, Keen Style CG - Part 1: Sketching

Initial Sketch

Firstly, before any CG (which stands for Computer Graphics by the way), I start with a nice sketch. Here is the end result. (Click on the picture for a larger size). In this tutorial I'll show the process of making this picture.

There's a whole lot of symbolical detail in this picture, but I'll elaborate on that later on in the tutorial =)

The program I use is called OpenCanvas, at this point in CGing, where you have to do sketching, it doesn't really matter. It is a basic sketch after all so you can use paint if you wanted (though the fact that it only has 3 undos' was really off-putting for me =D ).

This picture took 3 hours to draw. Yep 3 hours =D. Why did it take so long you say? Because it didn't turn out the way I like it =D. Sometimes I take 20 minutes to sketch something up, up to the massive 3 hour mark, especially if I'm drawing on the computer. Drawing on the computer has its benefits, as you can fix up errors that you see, while for drawing, sometimes you just can't be bothered to fix those errors you see =D. And the computer has the blessed undo-key. Ahh, what would we do without that? =)

Contest And Description

I decided to enter a contest of a good friend of mine on DeviantArt, over at AkitoMaru.deviantart.com.

This contest was in celebration of her 6,000th hit (yes I am well aware that that figure is more than double my current page views of my own deviantart account (http://keenfoong.deviantart.com/ ) at the time of this writing -_-). Well anyway, for this contest, I had to draw one of her three original characters. I chose Vampire Mello, you can see her picture and description here.

Now that I've chosen, I read her description of that character, Mello:

"This little vampire doesn't drain people of their blood, rather drains their souls in hopes to recover her other wing... o_o the bunny on her shoulder is BonBon and does most of her talking for her... her location are usually around graveyards or abandoned churches. "

Good, now that I've got this description, I have this great picture in mind. This is greatly important. Having a clear, sharp picture in mind is vital for a breath-taking picture, even if your skills aren't too great, this can still help make a nice picture (not that I'm claiming that mine are extremely good =P). Also, make sure you have a description of the character that you're drawing in mind, it adds to the feel of the character.

For this picture I had a couple things in mind:

I wanted to emphasise the fact that she did only have one wing (as it was a surprise for me seeing only one wing when I first saw her picture).
I also wanted to show her sadness for only having one wing (I'm not sure if this is true to that character or not, but I got this impression).
The abandoned churches and around graveyards said to me that she would be lonely (also further emphasised by her lack of
speech, BonBon (the little rabbit thingo), would do the talking).

Err... that's it I guess, =) I'm sure I had more in mind while I was drawing it, but I've forgotten it. =P Anyway, it's good to have the description in mind, so you can actually draw the features on to the picture, and thus adding to the overall feel to the art work.

Sketching

With that out of the way, lets start drawing!

Sometimes I draw on paper, sometimes I draw on computer. This time I drew on the computer because I was lazy to draw on paper. So lets start with the basic sketching.

You might notice that this picture is pretty different to the end product. Yep, I didn't really have a clear enough image in mind, (even if I did have a clear-ish image in mind at the time). So make sure you image is very clear before you start.

By the way, don't be afraid of making mistakes. Just let your mind flow, since you've already had the clear image in mind, your mind should automatically go towards that image.

Oh yeah, btw, the brush I used was Sharp Pencil, Radius 0.5 for OpenCanvas, not that it's necessary.

Added more detail (legs and other arm), twisted it a bit.

Perspective Change

Sometimes I flip it over to change the perspective a bit. You know that tip where you ask peoples opinions of your picture? then you ask them they can immediately spot errors you didn't see before, right?

Wouldn't it be nice if you would always see the errors, without the pain of getting people (and sometimes the harsh crit), which might put you off drawing that pic altogether? Well flipping is the technique for you!! Well sorta =D.

Flipping the picture gets you to see the picture in a different perspective instead of your locked view, which disallowed to see even the most obvious of errors. This is the same as going away from you picture for a while (5 minutes to a few days), then coming back, and seeing all those nasty errors pop-up! Same thing, except for the huge time lag =).

By the way, I sometimes flip it vertically also (though not often) since you also get used to seeing the second, flipped view. When I first started drawing, I never used it. I learned this technique from some place and decided to try it out on my pictures that I drew. I flipped it, and voila! So many errors were there that I nearly kicked myself seeing all of them! That is because this is how other people see it, with your approximate skill level in drawing. I had a fun time fixing those errors.

Now, when I flip the image, the errors don't come out so much anymore. Might be because I was a little better when I first started (I'd better be, other wise I'd go ballistic because I've wasted a couple of years =)), or maybe I've gotten used to seeing the other view, and get locked with it too.

I try to avoid this locked view, by looking at this picture as a whole, taking in the whole picture, all four corners (sometimes by zooming out or taking a step back to have a look at the picture if you're drawing on paper).

Problem!

(Added some additional details)

BAH! Problem Encountered!

At this point, I realized that the wing was going to be a problem. I wanted to show that she had a lack of wing, but with the wing on this side, the lack of wing is going to be on the other side.

What's wrong with that you say? Take a look! =P

With the wing on this side, some viewers may assume that there is actually a wing on the other side, but he's actually blocking it. AAAH! Why didn't I think of that before! At this point I was torn to whether to leave it be, or get rid of all the arms (and those hard to do hands )= ), switching the wing to the other side, and having her hold her wingless side, since that was my original intention, (symbolical blah blahs).

In the end I decided to do it. That this, in itself says, how important it is to have a clear picture in mind! =)

Hands and Other Little Details

Added little BonBon, and her wing.

Just to say, I had a WHOLE lot of trouble doing this hand. I must of tried 5 different techniques, redrawing the hands many times more than I care to remember! In the end I just gave up and let my mind do what it felt like it by scribbling anything, not caring if the end result came up right or not.

It turned out alright =D Well better than some of the other hands I had, I just need to do some tweaking now.

Background

Added a basic sketch of a window, and some cloth behind her, made to kinda look like her missing wing (more symbolical blah blahs).

In case you're wondering, the reason why are some areas of the pictures are bold is because those are the areas I drew over many times =P So I had a little trouble drawing those bits =D.

Added a bit of shading to set the mood.

Clothing

Some tweaking, and added some clothes.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention earlier. I tend to draw the naked body underneath first. =P Not because I'm perverted =), but because the clothing fits better around it, that way you can't have clothing looking like it is the body, like you see in some amateurish drawings =D.

Oh, and also, I didn't draw breasts for this girlie this time, I usually do, but from the looks of the original picture, she was kinda flat =P So I omitted it this time =)

Also, it helps for practicing anatomy.

Finish

Then the end result. Did more tweaking and finished the wing. Still not entirely happy with the hand, and her left arm doesn't look relaxed enough.

But yeah, never mind. Sometimes you see errors after you've done too much. If this happens, make sure you make note of this, to make sure you don't make the same mistake ever again.

Conclusion

Well there you have it! My 3 hours of sketching! =P Most of the time was spent just fixing the arms and the hands, and getting her body right. At the time of this writing, I still had trouble getting the arms and hands to0evoke the feeling I wanted. Getting the whole picture to evoke ghat you want to feel is pretty difficult, especially for learners like me. Making it not awkward, and making each part of the body (i.e body language), work fob the feeling of the picture is key.

Symbolical Stuff

Well time for me to explain some of the symbolical stuff in here. People are welcome to skip this part, if you wish, but for those people who are just curious, I'll put it down here.

Well firstly, lets get the description down here:

This little vampire doesn't drain people of their blood, rather drains their souls in hopes to recover her other wing... o_o the bunny on her shoulder is BonBon and does most of her talking for her... her location are usually around graveyards or abandoned churches.

Other than the obvious cuteness elements and possible sexy elements, the arms and hands, and legs, were put there for a purpose. Her left arm is holding her wingless shoulder/back. This represents her sadness for her lost wing.

The cloth behind her is there to represent her attempts in regaining this wing (though it does look kinda bad/comical, so I might remove it, but then again, I might not too =D). I wanted her right hand to grip her shirt, but it didn't really happen, but this was going to represent her pain and suffering, and loneliness. Her eyes would show that too, since in anime, this is the most easiest place to see their expression and feeling.

Her wing is opened out just to show her one and only wing. Legs, and the surrounding cloth on the floor, are there to show her chaos and suffering.

Woo, now that's done, you now can laugh at my description. Laugh at me if you will, but this little description helps me draw a whole lot better in my opinion, that way I can get a nice feel from the picture.

Learn how to draw people - drawing Cartoon people

Have you ever wondered why learning to draw is expected to be difficult? Here is why... This is because everyone tells you so.

Those who can not take tell you hard is, those who can make say you, is hard, and especially, those that learn you to draw tell you is difficult. If you want to learn how to draw that you already hold the belief that you will put dans lots of work to learn, practice and master all the special techniques "talented" people gets free birth.

So to change this belief. Say you want to learn how to attract people... Now, you might get a book on people drawing - study of the anatomy of the human body, learn the General measures of the head, where the eyes and ears are positioned over nose and mouth, how to divide the face, where all of the muscles and what happens to these muscles with change of expression. You can learn about the posture and balance, the body, movement, clothing proportions, perspective and so on, including a special study of the eyes, hands, feet, hair and other details.

And then there are the really hard part - learn the technique of shading and how draw a portrait with similarity.

With all these instructions, it is not surprising that anyone who wishes to abandon attempt to learn to draw in people. But there is another way, an easier way, a faster way - and it is by attractingpeople to cartoon ing.

It's funny, but several instructions on attractingpeople to cartoon ing begins by saying you must first understand drawing real people - but in my view, it is preferable to work the other way round. Why? Because drawingof caricatures of ing is fun and easy, and because of this, you are motivated and inspired to draw more often - and the more you draw, more improve you your skills of observation and ability to drawing.

Here is how to proceed in practice. Store all the books of instruction, rules and techniques and to launch a new. Spend much time looking at the people, but look with your sense of humor. See the people of standing ways funny, seated walk and speak, how they scrunch their face expressions, how ridiculous that they fixed hair, their statements of personal as they encourage their individuality and personality in the world.

People with a point of view display of humour will be impress all their features much more firmly in your mind, and you'll notice subtle details that you have seen otherwise. People are funny, often ridiculous, most often the stereotypes themselves... understand and recognize this will help drawing.

The next step is to draw. Begin to draw these characters and their characteristics - fast and easy to draw just for you, for reference (you do not drawing to impress anyone, you sketch to build and train your Visual vocabulary).

Then start their cartoon. Don't try to draw "caricatures" - just draw the characters that you can recall, or imagine, using your reference sketches. Keep them simple, that they will be quite funny and cartoon enough without help from standard cartoon -drawingtechnical ing or style.

Learn what is often a process of practice - do the more you something, better you get. The trick is to stick to something long enough to get to it. If something is fun to do so, you stick to it, and this is why cartooning will help you learn to draw. Hours of "show ing draw"instead of laborious"drawpractical ing" and level deep observation and interest achieve you by looking at people with glasses of the humour of color, to learn how to draw ever feel again difficult.

Design is easy and caricature is easy, if you want it to be, and my website http://www.drawingcartoon.net is to show you how you can become an original comic strip artist.

Or look me in action on http://www.youtube.com/user/MonaghanMike and be inspired to release your own unique talent of drawing.

How to draw creatures of Fantasy

Creatures of the fantasy of drawing takes certain competencies that go beyond the normal field of drawing because you do not find a topic to ask you - unless you live in an enchanted forest! So you are faced with not only the task of learning to draw also face you the challenge to tap into your imagination and this then puts down on paper. Here are some solid tips that will help you to imagine and to attract the best creatures of fantasy.

How tap dans your Imagination.

Doodling and drawing with a free style are the best way to get your creativity and imagination flowing. The procedure is to simply draw quick sketches and then modify that things are starting to appear. It goes something like this: draw a human big head shape, and then start to add a body but not consciously make a human body, vary your lines and see where it goes. You will be surprised by what is happening. Your eyes will begin to see things in a different way and allow you to create fantastic creatures. Must be only quick sketches and you should take much of them - fill the sheet of paper and see where are the drawings. It is a great way to arrive at the idea of starting a new creature of fantasy.
Changing the shape of the existing creatures and animals - many fantasy creatures more familiar is changes in pet animals. A Unicorn is a variant of a horse and a Dragon is a variant of a dinosaur. Think that other creatures and block their rough shape then the thinking of variations. What would look like a cat if it had scales instead of fur? Or is there a giraffe with short legs?
The power of the animal combination - it is somehow very powerful to create new creatures of fantasy and Greek mythology is loaded with such a beast. A Centaur is half human and half horse. and a siren is half woman and half fish. The possibilities are endless, and when are you jot down ideas do you limit body just upper and lower combinations. Try combining branches, torsos, heads, hands, feet or anything else that strikes you.
The creative power of distortion - often times fantastic creatures are distortions of humans or other animals. Think of your drawing as a piece of clay you can mold in any form. Distort the arms, legs, torso, head, or anything else. This will benefit some great results. If you draw a man who is very lean with an oversized head you move toward something resembling a Goblin. And if you draw a man very thick and stocky you can move towards a Troll or an Ogre.
Here are a couple of unusual ways to tap into your imagination and create unusual fantasy creatures. Try to make an unusual noise, and then try to draw the creature or the beast that would make that sound. Or write a description in words for your beast, and then try to. These two techniques provide other parts of your brain in the process not only your hand-eye coordination.
The mechanics of how to get the best Fantasy creatures

Everything that concerns human anatomy - if you practice people drawing you will get much better to draw creatures of fantasy. The same rules of base of the musculature and skeletal foundations apply to all biological creatures - same compounds ones. Don't forget: the skin or fur is something that covers muscles and bones but hide completely. The bones and muscles appear throughout.
